The University of Cambridge conducted a discovery study to understand safety management needs across 150 departments. The goal was to identify user needs, pain points, and suitable service offerings.
2023
The main goal of this project is to understand how safety is currently managed across the University of Cambridge’s 150 departments, identify the needs and pain points of Departmental Safety Officers (DSOs), and determine what type of service offerings would be most suitable to support and enhance safety management, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Research Methods: Open discovery study involving data collection and user interviews.
The main outcome of this project is the identification of key challenges and needs in safety management across the University of Cambridge’s departments. The study provided actionable recommendations for implementing centralized or standardized processes, developing a central repository for sharing best practices and templates, and creating a consistent system for recording, storing, and reporting safety information. These outcomes aim to improve efficiency, reduce the administrative burden on Departmental Safety Officers (DSOs), and enhance overall safety compliance and management within the university.
