Overview

In July 2023, Nexer Digital, in collaboration with a respected university (client anonymized), undertook a usability study focusing on the usability of five newly designed university landing pages and an updated navigation system.

Main Goal

The primary objective of the study was to assess the usability and user experience of the redesigned interface and layout of the landing pages. Specifically, the study aimed to identify any navigation barriers, evaluate user expectations, and gather feedback on content preferences.

In July 2023, Nexer Digital, in collaboration with a respected university (client anonymized), undertook a usability study focusing on the usability of five newly designed university landing pages and an updated navigation system.

Process

The research involved conducting task-based observational testing with five participants, comprising both postgraduates and undergraduates. The study utilized a combination of interviews and usability tasks to gather insights. 

Outcome

Positives:

  • Participants generally completed tasks without significant challenges.
  • The redesigned pages received positive feedback, particularly regarding design updates and user interface.
  • The landing pages aligned with users’ expectations in terms of content and structure.
  • Participants appreciated the narrative structure and variety of content available.
  • Real student feedback and testimonials were well-received.
  • There was a notable desire among participants for easier access to support services.

Negatives:

  • Some branding and color choices were perceived as not aligned with the university brand.
  • Certain images were criticized for not accurately representing student life or the university.
  • Some content sections were deemed overly lengthy and content-heavy.
  • Generalized content about the city lacked specificity to the university.
  • Participants desired more detailed information on specific areas such as facilities and accommodation.
